Premier Loom - 90 Sierra Stalks - Hazard Switch

Hi,

Bill and I were trying to figure out the lights and stalks wiring today, but we fell foul on the hazzard lights.

bill has a PremierWiring Loom, and the Sierra column from a 1990 sierra.

We think we have the hazard connections wired up correctly, but with the igntion off - when we tried the hazard switch, the flasher relay clicked once, and then the perm live fuse blew...

Has anyone had any issues with the hazard switch going"bad" and when in use causing a short circuit?

I have been searching on here this evening, but i cant seem to find a difinitive guide to the hazards..

Any help, suggestions?

theres 2 types of switches on the sierra
83BG & 87BG
Not that it does you much good but alan used to do a plug fitting service for £10 if you sent him the plugs with about 6" of wire he would wire them into your new loom

well - we found the issue.

Bill brought some new indicator arms from ebay and we fitted them - exactly the same issue.

so after 5 mins more of head scratching - i decided to try another flaher relay.

bingo!

The old electronic flasher relay must have been defective and shorting to ground, causing the fuse to blow...

( just in case anyone has a simular issue in the future )

For those of you using switches with unknown history , the contacts inside can corrode and cause short circuits . This problem can occur with cars that have no weather protection as well (rain getting into switches) Might pay to give switches a squirt of contact cleaner once in a while.
