Power Commander Wiring/Troubles
Hi all,
Been installing a power commander into a 2000 Busa powered Fury.
With the stock ECU in place the car runs really well. My mate wants to squeeze a few more BHP out of it and ordered a Power Commander III Usb.
On hooking up the Power Commander, attaching as per the instructions (almost idiot proof to be honest) the car fires once and then immediately dies.
Plugged the old ECU back in and it starts immediately and runs fine.
Power Commander is bust we thought. Called Dynojet UK and asked for support. Very helpfull chap said that he had seen this on 5 or 6 kit cars with a
modified loom and that he hadnt ever managed to diagnose the problem. He believes it is a loom problem and has supplied the colours codes and
descriptions to help us in our diagnosis. We are in sunny Scotland so a trip down south isnt really an option.
Has anyone else run into problems with a commander in this way?
We have confirmed that we have the right product and can hook the power commande up to the PC just fine.
We are thinking about an auto electrician to try and trace all of the wires etc... Any other suggestions or inspiration?

Sounds not right to me....
powercommander only needs a live , ground and some wires to the injectors / coils and
the TPS / MAP etc..
did you confirm the engine year/model with the power commander unit???
did you upload a map?? (can it be clean/empty)
what exactly is the problem doesn't inject enough.. or doesn't it spark anymore...
maybe you give the power commander only live when you push the startbutton??
Do some test:
- starting and mediate more throttle..
- keep the start button longer pressed...
i think you just have taken a bad point for ground or live...

The 1999/2000 unit has been confirmed and plugs directly into the loom close to the injectors and only has one other connector - black which we
connected to the battery directly.
I should probably double check the year of the engine to be extra safe. Does anyone know if a 2001 onwards PC3 would fit the loom of a 99/2000
engine.
I can communicate fully with the commander through the pc. I managed to download the stock map from the unit to the PC. Unfortunately the busa is the
type that requires a seperate 9v feed from a small square battery when the engine isnt running so I cant verify the unit is being powered. When the
ignition is switched on the unit does its start up sweep of the green lights.
We have discussed connecting the wires directly the ignition but didnt want to cut into the loom is if this is a non starter. If this is very fixable
then we will go to the next stage. The only part of the loom that is non standard is the ignition itself, when the bike was dropped. Otherwise it is
standard.
The engine bursts into life and for a split second runs, then dies.. holding the throttle at differnt positions or holding down the starter just
repeats.... single burst of ignition and then stop...
We will need to check for sparks and chase all of the injector/tps wires to the right places... but why would the standard ECU still work if these
were at fault?
From what you are suggesting - the second thing is probably to remove the dependency on power from the standard loom connections.
We didnt have much time when we installed it with him having spent ages making brackets for the gear change and he doesnt want to risk this weekends
hillclimb by making the current ECU inoperable.

mhhh if you ask me,
the power commander kicks in and then your engine dies..
so the reason it dies is that the powercommander cant control your injectors/spark..
the wrong signals must be connected to the powercommander...
search for a loom of a 2000 bike and for a 2001 bike and compare if the connections to the unit are the same.
or the unit is bust... or the connections arent compatible... don't try soldering etc. etc. it wont bring much, because of the fact that the
bike starts it means that the connections are correct.... its just the commander which kicks in and maybe needs a signal which doesn't reach
him...
what happens if you move the throttle with the laptop connected??
do you see something in the program that you moved the tps..???
is there a signal checker function in the software???

Have you earthed the power commander with the ring connector on the power commander loom?
when fitting the Power commander on my 2006 R1 with modified loom it ran fine on the standard ECU, but then when i plugged in the Power commander it
wouldnt run.. i couldnt figure it out.. then realise i hadnt connected the earthing cable... i didnt think it would make a difference, as the circuit
would be earthed through the loom too.
As soon as i connected it to earth and tried again it fired up, and run spot on

hi guys,
Earth is definately fine - connected to the battery...
As for the controlling injectors. I agree, but why does the standard loom/ecu work fine... ?
I will check for loom differences in teh different ages of bikes and will follow up with a call the suppliers , just incase we have the wrong version.
I will try to do more with the laptop connected, but I cant connect to the ECU until the engine is running, which is a daft design if you ask me.
I will post back as we get closer to the solution... frustrating...
