How do i tell if HT leads are supressed or not, i got some with the engine so i dont know where they came from. Is there an easy way to tell?
Thanks

The only sure way is to buy new ones - they usually have a BS code printed on the side. Otherwise you'll never know if the ones that came off
your donor were the original manuafcturer's leads (which should be OK) or some dodgy aftermarket ones.
The SVA inspector will be looking for clear evidence - printed codes - as I doubt that he'll use anything electronic to test.

You haven't been able to buy unsupressed leads for years, the British standard is 1986, if the're fit for use on the car the're
suppressed!
Cheers
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

I've seen leads meant for suppressed end fittings for sale at shows! This is just braided copper.
Anyway, here's what my SVA manual says:
"Check the HT system is fitted with radio interference suppression equipment which complies with the technical requirements of Directive
72/245
As a minimum, evidence of compliance must include the following information clearly and permanently marked on the suppression equipment
- trade name or mark of the manufacturer
- trade description (markings to be at intervals of not more than 120mm in the case of a suppression cable)"
For most people, this means marked cables.

Unsuppressed leads must be available still surely...
I live quite near a main road and the number of those "bloody" annoying little buzzy scooters play hell-up with my telly!
Mind you - it's easy remedied - just shove the wheelie bin in front of em... works wonders! (Jokin'!)
