Electrical flasher relay

I've been using the same flasher relay (2-pin) since building the car. Worked fine until today when the indicators stopped worked. The hazards (on a different relay) worked fine so that shows the earths etc are okay.

Now for the technical bit... When I flick the flasher relay the indicator briefly flashes (ie goes on for a few milliseconds) which suggests the relay is at fault (flicking the relay terminals does nothing suggesting it's not the wring)....

Are flasher relays prone to going south? I know I could replace it with a hi-tech jobby incase I ever decide to fit LED lights but I'm 25% scottish and they're pretty strong genes it appears A replacement normal flasher relay is much cheaper than the fancy jobbies- obviously if they're prone to failing I might fit a "clever" one- after all if the more expensive one is twice as much but last three times as long it's cheaper in the long run......

Thanks for any opinions!!!

been out in the wet recently? Pretty sure that's what caused mine to fail as it's mounted on the steering column.

There was a stall at Uxbridge with loads of mechanical flashers.

Funny how one always gets the news too late

I can recomend this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-Pin-Electronic-LED-Flasher-Blinker-Flash-Signal-Fix_W0QQitemZ280247710688QQihZ018QQcategoryZ72233QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_tr ksidZp1713.m153.l1262

It runs on any combination of LED and conventional bulbs upto 20A, it took about a week to come and has a minute delay when indicating, other than that can't fault it!
