Westfield Heater?

Just looking at wiring in my screen heater and I thought it was 2 speed but I now have my doubts. There are 3 wires to the fan assy and 1 goes to a 1.4 ohm resistor in the housing. Anyone know why the resistor is there? This would dissipate about 100W?

I bought the unit second hand off ebay and it is a westfield one....

Thanks

do you have a photo of the areas with the three wires going into it and what attaches to the other end of the wires, it might help to identify ?

***EDIT***

i guess you dont know what goes on the other end if you bought it second hand oops

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but its sinking, Racing around to come up behind you again, the sun is the same in a relative way but your older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death

my westy heater is the same,

the resister is a reostate the takes up the extra power between the speeds.
so it works 2 speed

iirc the red is common,
the orange is slow speed (goes to the resister)
black is fast speed.

some also have a blues wire linking between orange and black with a suppresser inline.

So are you saying then that you switch the returns? Have you run a relay for the heater?

thanks

resistor will be there to step the voltage, and give 2 running speeds

Thanks for all the help... Turns out the Black is the fast speed, red is the slow speed and Orange is the return. Very strange colour coding! Has anyone bothered with a Relay.. Fan only draws 2.8 Amp Max....
