Micra Radiator Thermo switch power

Just a quick whilst I can't sleep for thinking about it...

On a BEC we've used a Micra Radiator - the radiator switch uses the fused link from battery so is allowed to run when engine stopped.

My question is - what power does the Micra Fan use... and does it use a relay when in situ in the Micra?

If it does use a relay I'll need to put another relay in!

id be very suprised if it needed a relay, cant see it using that much power. my polo one certainly didnt have a relay, plus when i tested it over a battery it barely sparked, indicating not much current. HTH...

Not sure about Micra but I suspect most do run with a relay as ECU triggered. For the small time it takes to install a relay I would use one just to save wear on the sensor contacts. The running current might be low but suspect the start up draw is quite high.

i suppose you're right, its only a few quid and a few minutes.

didnt know some were ECU triggered, that must be a thing from new engines i guess. my polo and sierra barely knew what a chip was!

on my polo however, it definately was a simple circuit as the wire from the radiator mounted thermostat goes a foot thru the loom to the fan, then straight to earth.
