Dip beam stopped working PART 2
Thanks for the previous replies, i thought i would start a new thread to continue on:
I haven't had a chance to get a couple of new bulbs yet. Hopefully at the w/e.
Meantime I did get a new relay and the dipped worked fine until I switched the main beam on, then neither the dipped or main beams worked?! Side
lights still work throughout.
So next job is to replace the bulbs as you have suggested but would you know if I will I need to get new relays as well ? I.E does the fact that it
buzzes mean it is knackered ? If it does I could get through a few before I sort this prob out! Or I take it to someone who knows a bit more about
electrics than me...
Any guidance/help much appreciated
Cheers,

A buzzing relay can be caused by several things
1)The voltage on the coil being too low due to poor connection or incorrect circuit, possibly due to coils being in series.
2) It is possible to connect the coil through its own contacts so that every time the coil is switched on, its contact switches it off, the contact
re-opens and the coil re-energises, and so on. The relay acts exactly like a electric buzzer.
Very difficult to offer better suggestions without a wiring diagram, I'm afraid

Had problems lately with Indicator relay buzzing
Eath was the prblem, I had the scuttle off to check some wiring and the bit of ally in the scuttle was not touching the chassis. THis caused wired
things like indicator to come on with wipers and buzzing relays.
Check the earthing points of the lights and the relays and the column.
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

hi thanks for your replies and i will look further into all your suggestions.
I thought i should just make it clear that these lights have been working fine for 2 years so it is not a case of which wire is wrong or relay being
wrong.
Using the replies i'm thinking that a connection must be poor or something is up with the earth.
Anymore suggestions on the buzzing relay fiasco would be great!!
