Relays Hot

Not had time to look at this yet but thought I would post in case anyone had a similar experience.... I was running my Zetec engine for the first time today and noticed that my fuel pump relay and fan relays were getting hot. They are well rated @ 40Amp so would not expect them to be hot. Anyone experienced a similar thiing?

Relays do get hot or warm, you have an energised coil in there that is working all the time to maintain the electrical contact. Cheers Ray

rough calculaiton shows that coil will consume 2 W of power; that is eqivalent to one or two instrument bulbs.

so getting warm is ok - depends on how warm though!

Might be worth checking the switched connections on the relay as any bad contact will soon heat them up.

Finally back on the job!
