Mk2 Escort Fuel gauge----Full=1/2 and empty=1/4

Hi all,

just at making a loom stage, and tried out the fuel gauge.

*Mk2 Escort (T reg) 1.3 with original fuel gauge in a locost tank - with the float bent a bit to fit.

* tried it out of the tank for full travel E to F and ok

* checked earth to chassis and earth ok, tried it direct to battery neg and sill same

* gauge is old dash using orig PCB or should say printed plastic board.

*not checked water gauge yet.

my conclusion is dodgy voltage regulator, as full is 2.5V output? but as i havent clue what it should be im stuck.

it must have worked at some point!

my rallycross mini just uses the electric water gauge direct from batt, as the battery is always charged full and no alterator fitted.

any ideas???????????????

I'm a bit confused; are you saying that with the float out of the tank you can get the gauge to move the full sweep from E to F, but with the float fitted to the tank you only get the gauge moving between 1/4 and 1/2?

If so are you sure the float is not getting obstructed by the sides of the tank?
