Standard Zetec wiring? Will it work??
I have removed the 1.8 Zetec engine and engine loom from a mk6 escort to convert my tiger from a pinto.
Are there any easy ways to wire this?
I am on a very limited budget so don't really want or need the expense of aftermarket systems (megajolt etc). I am pretty good at soldering, but
not much good with circuit boards etc.
Can i leave anything off (egr sensors etc) as i want to weld up my own plenum (but only becuase the plastic ford one wont fit).
Any ideas or advice is appreciated

Have you got the orginal ecu?
If you and an eec iv some early ones do not have the have the Immobiliser (good).
If your ecu has the Immobiliser you will need the bits from around the igntion key as they are paired with the ecu.
Once this is sorted the next bit is to sort out the sensors - and the later the ecu the harder this si as it needs more sensors properly set up else
it goes into a limp home mode.
It is possible but can be tricky
Unless you have ford diagnostic gear you can't plug your laptop into it and find out what is happening or to tune it..
I looked at thid and thought the amount of time i would spend sorting it out it would be quicker to buy a megasquirt.

Thank you. It is an early-ish model. Does not have the immobiliser with red key. I take your point on the time it will take. Might be better to save
up.
Does a megasquirt need all the sensors too? Or just crank position? Sorry for all the questions, just dont want to make a costly mistake

Hi,
Your zetec engine will have a vr sensor on it which drives an edis unit for the spark. This can connect into megasquirst if they have the edis circuit
installed. I believe emerald ecus dont need the edis box.
The megasquirt will need a coolant temp sensor, air temp sensor, oxygen sensor of some sort. Thats all mine has got..
Thats an options anyway.

When you say oxygen sensor. Do you mean the Lambda sensor or the one in the inlet pipe (nearest the escorts airbox/filter)

Hi,
Yes its the lambada sensor in the exhaust.
the senor in the inlet manifold is a pressure sensor often called a map sensor.

Just been having another look at my engine and also haynes manual. Not sure if i'm not looking in the right place.
It's a silver top Zetec from a P reg escort. Can't see the toothed wheel arrangment anywhere. There is a crank position sensor and a CAM
shaft position sensor. Is it these i'm looking for (edis)

Hi,
What you are looking for is a VR sensor.
If you stand in front of the engine water pump closest to you and look down the right hand side near the flywheel just above where the starter motor
bolts on you should see a connector - this will be the VR sensor which will connect to the edis box via shielded cable.

AAAAAHHHH i see. Sorry thought that was the crank sensor.
I think the way for me to go is carbs and megajolt. Seems to be the way alot of people do it. They can't all be wrong!! lol.

Hi,
That still quite an expensive set up.
I bought an old escort efi manifold from e bay for £50 this had all the injectors and the manifold comes up rather than down likw the plastic ones so
there is room for the steering column and altenator.
This woks with the megasquirtf fine.

Crank Sensor is a VR sensor.
I would run the original ford EEC-IV ecu.

Do a search for zetec ecu with my user name. Ive done a few and talked another guy through it over the phone. Anything after 94 will be pats and you
will need the matching keys for the ecu.
I had webers but ive now sold them. Its now running the standard ecu on a steel manifold.
96 could be eec_iv or eec-v The first has 60 pins the later has 104 pins.
Ive done upto 97~98 after that the security gets much harder.

so its the eec-iv. But will be pats. Has the ignition key got a red bit on the end or even a key that is totaly red ?
Whats the code on the ecu ? it looks like a four letter name just under the main plug ?

Ive put some info on THIS post. Its bassed on a pre pats ecu but the pats only
adds four wires. RX TX power and earth.
Give me a u2u if you need any help as your only up the road although I wont have much spare time untill the spring.

it's all locked up in the workshop now. Too cold to go outside lol
not sure about the keys either.
For arguements sake if i don't have the correct key, how much trouble am i in with eec-iv???

if its a pats ecu and you dont have the key you need to A) get new keys paired up by fords £££££££££
Or B) find another ecu. Any ware from a quid to fifty depending on how patiant you are.
Unless its a late reg car that has the pre pats ecu and no key needed.
If you can find the code on the ecu I can tell the spec and if its pats or not,

Using the early ecu is as simple as wiring up a MS, from my understanding... however, never having found one, being unsure which parts are needed from
what car, I think we need a guide.
I've seen various sites talk about this but no definitive guide.
Anyone up for writing a guide? Wasa?

yeh ive been thinking of doing a guide but pin numbers and colours change between models.
As said its no harder than wiring up ms.
What puts people of is the huge bundle of wires to start with.
