Inertia switches
I just bought a fuel pump inertia switch. Are these things generally directional? Assuming it is mounted with the reset switch at the top does it
matter which side faces forward?

Shouldn't matter If it is the type with the rubber cover on the top they are usually mounted with the mounting scews/bolts going in from the
side.
Best mounted under the dash to something fairly solid.

I would mount it to something solid like the chassis. You want the shock from any point on the car to operate the switch.
That way you cover a shunt from any direction.
There are load of these switches sitting in cars in the scrappy's. I got the plug and a couple of feet of wire with it.
I dont know what the current capacity of the contact are. So I would use the switch to control the Fuel Pump relay.
Just my 2d's worth.

Wherever you mount it just make sure you can access it to re-set if necessary (mine needs a firm push on the rubber cap). I was suprised when a bit
too enthusiastic dropping the car off the jack triggered it.

Inertia Switches As Secondary inmobilization
I´ve just read that you can wire an inertia switch as an inmobilization device.
Just wire and mount in a concealed but accesible place.
Just a tap with a screwdriver or something yo activate, and then you press to reset.
You may use it on the fuel pump circuit, or any other.
Advantage of this is that the engine wil turn but not start.
Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....
