dodgy tacho pt II

this is my tacho:

according to this website i should have 4 switches on the back, but i only have two (the small blackbox at the top of this pic):

so whats the dealio? with both the switches "off" the revs are double what they should be, and the other iterations dont seem to work either.

also, while im here, anyone know what should be connected to what on the back of my fuel gauge? i have three post connectors and two wires coming off the back

2 wires out the back of the fuel gauge is just for the illumination.

Then you need to phone Caerbont Automotive on: 01639 732200 and ask for Ian John (top technical man).

I just thought, is your engine running wasted spark?

Would this mean that it would be getting twice as many pulses every cycle, trying switching both switches on (like it would for 2 cylinder). It might make the difference.

that classic wiring is for a coil driven tacho, this one isnt.

i have set both to "on" and it didnt work at all. 1 on and 2 off gives 2x revs and 1 off and 2 on gives nothing too.

from two double ended coils, which drives the tacho directly

The above linked instructions arnt for your tacho, i had the same and couldnt find the 3rd or 4th switches after looking on the net i think i found the real instructions which means yours is most likely the more modern one. This one is programmed with 2 switches which you add into the loom off the back of the tacho. i think there are 3 wires, all of which connect to earth to make the contact and 1 switch is the recall feature, mode feature and enter setting feature. in other words i have 3 switches on my dash to program it with.

if only i could find those instructions i could help more

look at the loom and see if you have the same wires. if you have then all you need is a few switches to get it up and running (or just earth the wires to set it up)

* please check its the earth first *

Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.
