MS2 upgrade help needed
I bought an MS2 upgrade board for my MS1 V2.2 and have followed the megamanual instructions but cant seem to get the downloader to speak to the unit.
Ive changed the chip back over, and it works ok with that, but not the MS2 chip. Am i missing something?
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

I get this on the MS2 board;
Opened comm port 9 at 9600.
Reading signature:
No signature available, possibly could not connect properly.
and this on the MS1 chip;
MegaSquirt Download 2.00
Opened comm port 9 at 9600.
Reading signature:
Signature: "Bowling & Grippo v. 2.xxx or 3.000" plus all the lights light up as they should??
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Ive tried the higher rate, but it still wont talk. Im wondering if ive got a nackered board?
I can now get MS1 to work in MegaTune, but the whole idea of getting the MS2 upgrade was to manage ignition as well.

Richard.

Have you tried port checker? Handy incase some of the settings or ports are wrong.

Yes, it sees my usual Port 9 (which MS1 connects thru) and says "No Connection Made".

I think ive found the answer BELOW the step for installing the code??
"This is the one non-plug-n-play setup between the 68HC908GP32 processor (i.e., the MegaSquirt® processor) and the MegaSquirt-II board. The
problem is that the MegaSquirt-II needs the +12V, but there is nothing like this running to the DIP40 socket for the 68HC908GP32 (for obvious reasons:
12 Volts would cook the GP32).
This is indeed one of the difficult things if one wants to keep on swapping between the old 68HC908GP32 and the MS-II, in that if you re-install the
68HC908GP32, you MUST:
Remove the +12V jumper, or
Bend pin 16 on the 68HC908GP32 out such that it stands free and does not install in the socket,
Snip the pin 16 of the 68HC908GP32 short (so it can't contact the socket), since it is not being used, or
Use a 40 pin socket and snip pin #16 off the socket. That way you can easily switch between MS-I and MS-II and not have to bend/snip the pin on the
actual processor. "
Fairly drastic measures introducing 12V to the MS2 board, but at the moment this is the only other option i have that i can think is causing my comms
problem.
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Just seems strange that this is mentioned AFTER the bootloader part.

You dont need the 12v jumper unless you want to use the IAC controls!
It looks like its connecting and just reporting that there is no code loaded on the chip. Which is correct for a new chip.
Download the latest version of megatune with the firmware from here:
http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/files/Megatune_MS2_Extra_Release_V2.1.0_Installer.exe
Install it.
When its done place the boot jumper across the pins on the daughter board (not on the main board!) then connect to PC and power. Go to the megatune
folder, inside is a folder called ms2extra_2.0.1_release_firmaware. Open that then use the download firmware bat file to load the firmware to the
chip.
When it asks if you are upgrading, say yes and it will ask for the boot jumper to be installed etc. Just follow the onscreen instructions.
