Gauges for A RV8

Just considering different options for the gauges on my Rover V8. What type of gauges have you guys used and had good experience with? What would be some good options for me?

I may not be good a engine rebuilding but my fabrication of things like dashboards is pretty good. Would it be possible for me to take a LR defender instruments pod and tear it apart putting in new faces/surrounds etc? What are the flashy plasma gauges that you see on ebay like (assuming I want a knightrider cockpit)?

I fancy proper dial gauges and not a LCD instrument pod that some people seem to like.

I used the oil pressure and temperature gauge from a Rover SD1 although I would say that the better option is to go for aftermarket gauges with their own senders. I just had the SD1 gauges to hand and wanted to make a simple "SVA friendly" dashboard initially with the intention of revising it later.

For the other instruments I went with an Acewell digital dash which handles speed (until my magnets flew off) and RPM (not very well due to pick up sensing issues. I think later Acewell units work better with the V8 but mine can't do the "revs = sparks / 4" which I need in order to sense at the coil low tension connection so I have to use a coil of wire around the spark plug lead instead in "rpm = sparks * 2" mode. This is very erratic despite trying all sorts of tweaks.

Finally, I have a "bright 6" module for indicator lights.

I hope this helps,
Craig.

Never got round to fitting an oil pressure gauge. run for two years now without knowing about any oil pressure problems so hope there arnt any.

water temp gauge does not work and fuel gauge reads half full when the tank is empty.!!!
