Anybody recognise this side light?

As it says above! I could ask on the Elan forum but may get laughed at because of my naivety!

Back in the 60s/70s I never figured out what it was from pretty certain it wasn't from a UK production car or coomercial --- pretty certain it was Italian or French in origin.

It loos very similar to the original side lights on my 1959, Series 11 Land_Rover. Some Series 1's had a similar light on each end of their bulkheads. I remeber being told (20+ years ago) that these originally a Lucas item, but were then only still available through Rolls Royce.

This thread claims it's the same as Healey 3000 and the rears from a Hillman imp.

Edit: Seems feasible

Thanks guys - found some - but pricey!. Competing with £100's worth of front sidelights will make me brake sooner and slow me down!

Thanks guys - this site never fails!

I've just looked at my shell and I may have to rethink things! Where the Elan in the picture has the indicators, I've got air intakes! (my shell is an ex European race car). I could fit the indicators in the ducts although I may use the amber version of the side lights as indicators and fit headlights with a pilot bulb.

Wyn,

What are you aiming for? Something that looks good, or something historically accurate? Depending on what you want to end up with will probably dictate your path from here...

Good question - I'm trying to retain originality without going silly! I'm not going to drop a duratec in for example (although the car ran with a BDA in!). SO I guess I want the original look but without worrying if a part is exactly the same!

I've ordered a pair of these from SVC. (Well spotted TimC!) - I'll see how they look when they turn up.
