Cheers guys but which diode??
As you may have already seen my diode question and the alternator getting fried via a back feed from bright6, i asked what and where too get a
Diode.
Reman said he would send me one, but then i recieved 3 mystery packages/envelopes today and now i have ...... IN4001, IN4003, a much larger 6A4, and a
medium sized In5408
Cheers too who ever sent them, but which one is best too use?? Is bigger better so it lat longer or is smaller better so it burns out if faulted or
can anone provide a technical answer

Ha, wait till you get mine you'll have a 1N4003 and a 1N4007!!!
If all you're trying to do is allow the alternator to light the dash light, but stop the dash light powering the alternator this should only
need a diode where the "forward current" is commensurate with the load, ie one small bulb (or led?)
In whicha case 1Amp (In 4001/7) would be sufficient, 3Amp (1N4003) overkill.
If the problem is more complex than that, then if someone could elaborate......
But what a great response I need £5 note's if anyones got any spare

Alternator fitted, Diode connected and nothing?? turn to ignition and no battery light, start car and no charge and still no battery light.
It doesnt work. Am i going mad or have they not refurbed it correctly??
Right check im not mad please there are 2 wires, One large (red) charge wire, One Small (brown) charge light wire, on the alternator ive got 3
terminals, 2 big terminals (positve) and linked together internally and 1 small terminal (for charge light) and it earths through chassis.
I connected the diode inline on the charge light wire Cathode (white stripe) away from the starter.
Just like this which i slightly edited/stole from google
Do alternators only charge spinning in one direction?? or could he have wired it wrong??
Here is my engine and the alternator - is it running right direction?
Let me get this right.... the Engine runs clockwise, water pump anti clockwise and there for alternator clockwise.
(Crank - rusty, waterpump-orange and alt - silver)

what sort of light is the charge indicator? bulb or LED?
an led is a diode which illuminates remember, is it possible you've got one of the diodes connected the wrong way round?
if the lamp is a normal bulb, then i'm out...

Its a bright6 I assume they are bulbs but would have to check, I'm getting a voltage back down that wire without the diode connected.

Hi Gents, the Diode should be fitted with the strip being equivalent to the line on the diode drawing.
Current flow effectively goes in the direction of the 'arrow' of the symbol.

Well surely if the alternator is used too seeing 12v to excite it ( i dont need the diode), then it pops up to 14v when charging, that extra voltage
normally keeps the bulb off - so do i need a resistor saying as ive only got a LED (bright6) which will only pull 0.3v where as a bulb will take (one
sec while i work this out)

i use the bright 6 unit on my Dutton phaeton. take a live wire from the ignition to the bright 6 unit (it is a diode (led's are diodes)) and
the the output from the led goes to the alternator excite connection, you do not need any extra diodes or resistors, mine has worked for years with
out problems....have you connected the bright 6 wires the right way round? some of the lights share a common earth, the battery light has two and they
are handed....one connects to the ignition live and the other to the alternator.

I've cut our the battery warning in the bright6, fitted a bulb and diode instead and it works.
