how do i know what size battery cable to go for?

got the battery box sort of in the middle of the car, and the starter over the opposite side at the front. its 1.5 and then some across, so maybe 3m total depending on how its routed?
starter is standard VAUXHALL astra job, then its only lights, gauges, and ignition, no complicated electric washers or wipers or anything like that.
how much is the starter going to draw on cranking? assuming it might take a little longer than most if its cold?

i haven't got the original cables off the engine to ceck what they were

Personally I'd go large for the battery to starter and for the main engine earth, I'd use 40mm2 539/0.3, which should be good for 300amps.

a starter can draw 1000A on start up up to 1500A is possible (only for a short period, then it will settle down to a hundred or so,)

normal starter cable will be fine and you can order it in any length you require it for very cheaply. with ends fitted.
