Moving H-Lights forward?

Having driven in the dark a few times now I'm finding that my current postion of the H-Lights are not giving me very good vision!! Just don't feel safe driving in the dark at speed...
Would moving them forward increase the lighting? I reckon they are set too far back hence the beam is being masked by the nose cone!!
Does anyone have there's mounted forward still have this issue? Would it work having them mounted on the cycle wings??? Don't laff now, just a thought...
If you look in my photo archive you can see where they are mounted at present..

Standard bowl headlights are useless. I would consider upgrading to ANY of the better light options out there...

Having looked at your pics, i would say your lights are to small, and to low

mine, will probably never be like my tin top, but seem fine at night for what i want !

Lights do look miniscule

Lights are far too small to be of much use, IMHO, I would fit a decent set of 7" ones fitted with H4 lamps, thats what I have and have no problem driving at night, and at speed. HTH Ray

I disagree, I had those 'Dominator' lights and they were fine.

Are they wired correctly?

Can you put in a better bulb?

Russbost on here sells them, speak to him.

"I had those 'Dominator' lights" Have you replaced them then and if so what with?

I was a bit disconcerted to find this thread as I was just getting ready to purchase some "Dominator" lights, now I'm a bit dubious.

They do look small but thats no indication of power; Look at the size of "projector" lamps. Having said that, if you do want small/neat lamps then I'd be looking at projector style ones (russbost has some as do SVC).
The position won't be helping though as the nose is obscuring a lot of light from areas which would mormally be illuminated by both lamps. Moving up or forward will help (changing lamps won't). I don't think the front wings are going to work as there'd be too much vibration and they break the brackets easy enough without that extra weight.

I will check tomorrow. High and low beam do work but Im not sure what the bulb ratings are..

I have 7" lights from the same place David Jenkins bought his (ie. I can't remember where! ) and they were only about £70.

They're *much* brighter than my Golf I was driving at the time and were fine for night driving.

After 4 years in a damp garage the chrome's started to get a few rust spots but if I'd known I was leaving the car so long I'd have vaseline'd them over the damp/winter months and they'd be ok now!

One bulb has now blown so I'll look for some decent quality replacement bulbs.

Cheers,
James

ETA. Note how high the lamps on Caterhams are- look almost comical. But I bet they're up there for a reason!

No, not replaced, just sold the car

When I fitted them there were a few threads, maybe on the Westfield forum, about low output. IIRC they do work even if they are wired incorrectly. I will have a look for the thread.

However, they do look to be placed well back!

I had 5 3/4 inch ones on a 'caterham' style headlight bar/mount.

No issues at all with night driving bar bug splats
