Crank sensor wiring

I'm uing a Ford VR crank sensor on my V6 Mazda , as I cant work out how to use the stock hall effect (3 wire) sensor - but I am stuck on the final connection .
There are only two wires , but which is `positive' ? I know it matters which way round its wired , but other than trial and error how can I figure this out ?

Help

Its cuz I is blond , innit

I thought the 3 wire hall effect went as follows on a megasquirt.

1, 12v supply required from a ignition live or "Vref" on megasquirt
2, Earth which would go to the "common" sensor earths on megasquirt
3, Output signal, which is usually pin 24 on megaquirt

For the VR sensor this was covered in a thread you contributed to back in 2009

!!!Here

I hope that helps

Some people can never handle the truth and always try to shoot the messenger instead of taking an honest look in the mirror (its always easier to blame another than to face reality), but secretly they wish they could grow a pair and be the messenger !!!

I had intended to use the hall effect sensor - but as I am running Edis I cant see how it would work

But - thanks for the heads up , that solves the problem of connecting a VR sensor plug - I allready have it wired at the Edis end .

It does matter which way round, but if you get it wrong you won't damage it. If you don't get an RPM signal, just swap it over.

Hi Claire,

If you follow this link, you will end up with a picture and text from FLAKmonkey.
Ignore the text, it confuses the issue....
The picture (he assures me) is correct.
