relay wiring

hi,

can someone clarify the wiring for a fuel pump relay as i think im going mad.

i have power from battery to fused no 30

85 to earth, 86 from on switch other side is from fuse box and 87 to the pos on the pump

nothing happens

its just a normal 30amp 4 blade relay as far as im aware, i purchased two one for each pump i run and neither are working

thanks

Sounds OK wiring wise, if you have a multimeter check across 30-87 fro continuity when you energise the coil. If that works, try connecting 30 directly to 87 and see if the pump runs. If not then at least you can trace it from there.

Mmmm your originl explanation sounded fine. If swapping 86 and 87 solves the problem then 2 things spring to mind. Either your original explanation is NOT how you wired it OR you have ( there are 2 types A and B IIRC) an odd relay where the pin configurations are NOT a std layout.
You have to watch out for these when plugging into a std wired car relay socket .

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Some relays have a diode across the coil therefore making them polarised
