I would like to replace the points dist on my 1660 xflow dutton/locost project.
I have been told that some other fords in the scrapyard have contactless dists which fit.
which ones exactly? what coil and module will I need.

I'm writing this from work, so some details are hazy, but...

Look for a Fiesta with a Valencia engine, 1300cc I think. The Valencia looks a lot like a crossflow lump. The dizzy is made by Bosch, and has a plastic square lump on the side with a plug that locks in - make sure that you get the plug and as much cable as you can get!

It's really easy to fit and wire up, but you may well need to get a new coil that's purposely designed for electronic ignition. You'll also need to get rid of the ballast resistor wire.

If you dont mind spending a bit of money, look up Lumenition on the web and fit an optical breakerless system, no more points worries

Why bother when using the Bosch dizzy is so easy, cheap and is effectively identical in terms of operation?? No points in either system...

Cheers

One note of caution - when you get to the scrappies and find a suitable dizzy, take the cover off and see if there's any side-to-side play at the rotor (not rotational play - try to push the spindle side to side in all directions).
Not impossible to fix knackered bearings, but these dizzies are common enough to allow you to walk away and find a good one elsewhere.
happy hunting!
David

In addition... the valencia with the required distributor is a mk2 fiesta. The mk3 had a very similar distributor but it has a different control system and it will not work.
