Sierra ignition switch wiring
I'm currently wiring the car and notice that the ignition switch on my Sierra column has a thin red wire connected to it.
Does anyone know what this fed in the donor. I know what all the thick wires are for.

My sidelights didnt run through ignition switch,they worked with ignition off.
My money is on car stereo.

Accessory position?
A test meter is really useful when determining which wire does what... or even a bulb and a battery!

Thanks for the responses. I'm puzzled because this wire is soldered to the same place as the thick red wire. Unfortunately when I got the column
it didn't have a Sierra connected to it, so I couldn't trace what it did.
It's probably not important but I didn't want to get my wiring finished and then realise it is something really essential.
I've got wiring for my sidelights, and I'm not having a radio or any accesories so I think I'll get my snips out.
Unless anyone thinks it is something else and wants to save me from myself.

Now that I'm home I can look at my notes...
Referring to the markings next to the solder tags:
30 - key pos 0 - common (feed from the battery)
A - key pos I - accessories
15 - key pos II - ignition on
50 - key pos III - start
hope this helps...

it could possibly be for the hazard switch.
it's been a while since i stripped the fuse box, but i know the hazard switch is fed by a small gauge red wire, that is permenantly fed.
i would have though it would be fused, but you never know.
just a heads up, just in case

On mine it goes to a 2 pin connector by the wheel, with the other being a Black/blue wire. I've marked it as a permanant live which it obviously
is, but would need to look at the Sierra diagram to see what it "should" go to.
My guess would be hazzards or radio or something?

Of course, if I read the question properly, I might give a more useful reply! 
You have a 'spare' wire hanging off one of the switch terminals... correct?
If so, I wouldn't worry and just stick to your original wiring scheme. Check where it's connected using the details I gave earlier and
cut it off if you don't need it, or make use of it if it's convenient.

it sounds like a late addition, the radio wire is usually yellow i think. be rid of it, you can always solder it back on again and not tell anyone!

If id have read this earlier i could have helped. Ive just stripped the switches and colum out of a sierra at a scrappies.
The one i got had that wire soldered on with a bit of cloth tape wrapped round it. I think it may have been a recall or summit on them. Surely ford
wouldnt have done this in the factory?
