RFID Ignition Switch / Imobiliser
Hi,
I have now decided to ditch all the Sierra bits from my steering column and use separate dash switches for the lights etc. I am thinking of using a
RFID tag system for my ignition. I have read a previous post on this subject back in May but did not really give me what I am looking for. My thoughts
were to have a RFID reader behind the dash so to fire up the ignition I just touch this area with the tag. I will then have a push button starter.
Firstly do you think this will work?
Secondly what else will I have to fit in the imobilisation area for SVA? Will a fuel valve under the bonnet be good enough?

No idea about RFID but for SVA you only need one form of immobilisation that cannot be activated when ignition is on.

You may want to reconsider this decision. I found that driving without the 'stalks' was a hassle. Believe me - you will miss the ability
to switch on wipers and lights and especially indicators, without moving your hands from the steering wheel.

Can't comment on wipers but lights and indicator toggle switch are located close enought to the wheel on my car for this to not be an issue -
plus it looks loads better IMHO!

RFID tag and reader will work the systems are very simple and if you use passsive tags the costs are very reasonable. I believe systems are available
from RS but I will need to check. We use them for tracking ands identifying items and given their range you would probably not even have to take your
keys out of your pocket. Just push a buttom on the dash to power up the reader and if it validates the tag use the output to spin the starter and
enable the ignitiion

I saw an article where the bloke had the RF tag surgically implanted into his hand.
I suppose as long as you hand is near the dash, the car will run..

2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

I've had a look around with Google, but I haven't found a reasonably-priced setup for passive RFID.
Anyone got any ideas?
