reversing light/cable attachment
Hi when fitting a reversing light must it be switched off the gearbox or can I run a dash switch the tunnel is about 3mm away so I don't have
room to connect properly. Also am I ok to cable tie to the loom as long as it's in split conduit. Thanks

There is no SVA requirement to fit reversing lights, (And why would you want to if not controlled by the gearbox). BUT should you wish to fit
switch opperated Rev Lghts, then you MUST fit a "tell tale" devise, to let you know ten miles down the road, that you forgot to turn them
of. atb Ray.

Wouldn't it be an MOT failure point though?

IF they are fitted I'd expect the MOT to require that they work.
Using a dash mounted switch doesn't sound like a great idea to me even with a tell-tale..

I think the MOT rule is that lights, if fitted, must work. I am fairly certain that bikes and maybe cars as well don't have to have lights at
all for the MOT. I do know of a number of bikers who only go out in daylight and quite legally they are not fitted with lights.

As far as I know, there's no legal requirement for lights. As said though, if you have them they must work. Or at least show the MOT tester/plod
how they work, if done via some obscure switch. I intend having a 'hidden' ignition switch, so may have to show the MOT man next year.

I cannot see how this can be true as the law states that you "MUST use dipped headlights in adverse weather conditions"
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

The same applies if you are out after dark so having no lights must be quite restricting!!
