still got problems with distributor clearing manifold

Hi all

i recently went to the local scrappy and they supplied me with a bosch electronic distributor so i could get a side exit cap but i got the cap and the dizzy still touches the manifold for the twin su carbs and the manifold will not bolt on as its pushed up by about 7-8mm any one know of a solution to this without too drastic measures

stuck for sollutions now its a 1.3 x flow

regards

Mark

Last resort skim the manifold flange at an angle [wedge shape] this would lift the carbs/manifold slightly . Or how thick is themanifold at the point it catches? may be possible to reduce thickness as long as you don't go too far . Or a combination of the 2

what is in the way - any change of digram/photos?

you have tired the motorcraft (ford) too? that is about 20 mm shorter (top of cap fingers).

either you need to modify the manifold or look into machining down the distrubutor - I reckon that can be done.

What SU carbs are you using? If the carbs are in theh way, you can use thicker spacers or make an angled spacer between head and manifold

or just fit tiwn dellorto/side draft.

yes tried the motorcraft but still didnt fit now i am going for the bosch with the standard carb and manifold as just really want to get the car on the road will then save for some webers. The cap was touching the pipe of the manifold so couldnt really get rid of any of that the only way to do it would be to make a spacer but no idea how or where i could get one made with it all fitting flush

You could try fitting a ford ESC module as fitted to some fiestas. They are very similiar to the edis units but have a built in map sensor and timing map although there is no way of altering it
I dont now how well it would work but may be worth a try, if you fit it you will then have the crank sensor wiring and coilpack ready to upgrade to a megajolt when you can afford one.
The unit is a small module usually fitted on the bulkhead or nearside inner wing and is black plastic with a red front and a vacuum pipe going to it from engine.
