audi cabriolet electronics anyone?
just bought a audi cabriolet 1.8 R reg it's got a couple of minor issues but the price was right so just looking for a pointer as to where to
look first.......
the oil pressure gauge shoots far right when the ignition is switched on and stays there. my kit car does this when the earth comes off but as i built
that i know where to look where as the audi i didn't build
oil temp gauge also doesn't appear to be working.
the rev counter has decided to take a early xmas holiday and given up working.
the switch to drop all 4 windows at once has done same as above but each window works fine on it's own switch.
oh and the rear speakers don't work but i'm putting that down to the muppet who fitted the nasty kenwood stereo in it!
other than the above it's a very nice car

yeah checked them before even consulting the owners hand book which at the end of each paragraph reads " if the problem persists take the
vehicle to your nearest audi service center as soon as possible"! cos thats helpfull!!

Sounds like a very unhealthy car - and one which sounds expensive to fix.
Is the car legit - sounds like a ringer to me...

If the oil pressure is alright when you get the gauge working that remains to be seen, unless the price reduction covers fitting or fixing the
problems

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

you'll need an additional lead for the rear speakers, as they're run on the mini iso blocks off the standard head unit. i'll have a
dig on the autoleads website and get back to you with a part number. think the lead's about £25 though you can quite happily splice the kenwood
sub loom onto the pins, but i can't honestly remember what does what. it's on a label on the standard head unit, but i'm guessing
you don't still have that.
to summarise, it's not a problem as such with either part, it's just they're not joined together at present.
Edit : it's a pc9-401 you'll need

how do a few electrical problems add up to a car being a ringer?!
it's a 1 owner car owned by an elderly couple from new who i bought it off.
HPI report is clean, all numbers match up, all mot's and service history come with it match up. bit of a drastic conclusion to draw from a rev
counter not working IMO!
with the exception of the rev counter all the other bits are pretty common faults from what i've read but most of the owners seem to just throw
their cars at audi dealers to get them fixed thus there doesn't seem to be many folk who bother typing up how to fix said issues!
oh found out today it more than likely doesn't have rear speakers, thus they don't make sound apparently it's an option from
factory!

i paid roughly 2k under the book price for the car, the engine sounds and runs like a dream, no noises even when i started it at 5am this morning and
it hadn't been run sinse monday afternoon.
none of the problems should be a major headache to sort out and they don't seem to me to be major problems more annoying things! even with the
vdo pressure gauge being inop there's still a warning light and buzzer that would start shouting at me if anything was seriously wrong!

Sounds like an open circuit, will be either a break in the wiring or just an unplugged sender. The sender should be on the oil filter housing (I
think...)

Does it do the same as the pressure gauge?

I'd start by looking at the switch itself, could just be full of old-people crud.
