How do i modify this

Hi,

I have the original R1 fuel level sender and i need to lengthen it to suit my car tank.

Im a bit concerned about lengthening it as the feed and the earth are very close together!

The metal bit that holds the 'barrel' is not steel so i cant weld it, any suggestions on how to otherwise lengthen it?

Also if i cut and extend the wire how do i know if the wire i would use will be ok with siting in fuel and also the heat shrink, how would that be with sitting in fuel?

It all seems a bit crazy to me having live and earth in such close proximity inside the fuel tank!

The metal bit that hold the barrel is bolted on. Use a longer bolt and a spacer tube.

The barrel also looks like its been soldered to the metal thing. You could perhaps solder on an extension.

Edit to also say, there is no live in the tank. the 12V from the battery has to go through the gauge first and is taken to ground through the fuel level switch. No risk of fire.

It is a warning switch not a sender unit. It displays a light when you get low on fuel
