crossflow electronic ignition

Been out in the car today but cant seem to stop it spluttering here and there, at the mo i have standard points, When altering the timing it make it better but cant seem to get it bang on through out the gears, its dosnt do it so much if you floor it but it is still bad enough.

Does any one know if fitting an electronic ignition kit would sort out the problem out, if so do you know where i can get a kit from at a resonable price?

Rechecked points/gap and set timing in numerous posions.

Many thanks for your help.

Dave

Sounds more like fuel than points.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Yep. Way to go. Does away with the dizzy all together therefore you will gain a hundredth of a horsepower or so by just getting rid of it!..Every little bit counts I will have you know!

How tuned is your engine ?

It doesnt get any cheaper than a Ford ESC. But will not give you flexability for a tuned motor. It alters the advance from a vacume on the carb and water temp.

You would need a trigger wheel, temp sensor and a coil pack. Very simple to wire, just an ignition live and earth.

VERY LOCOST

The least disruptive change would be to fit a dizzy from a Valencia-engined Ford. It's a direct replacement, very few wiring changes and externally looks almost identical. Fairly cheap, too (if you can find the parts).

You'll find an excellent description HERE.

I used to have a system like this and, once set, you'll never have to touch it again.

Now I have MegaJolt - a very good system, but not a cheap solution at a bit over £100 + extras, plus you'll have to set it up using a PC. It does work better than a dizzy though, and will allow you to play around with settings (although that could be considered as a downside!).

HTH,
David
