Fireblade regulator rectifier problem

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search and couldn't find any reference.
I spent most of today trying to work out where my power is going. This is the first time I have tried to power the circuits up and I am constantly blowing the 20a fuse on the starter relay. There is no live feed through the red wire from the relay to the ignition.
The lead from the solenoid to the starter is showing continuity to earth
The red/ white lead on the relay has 12v, the red has nothing. The yellow/red has 12 volts. When I don't connect the starter motor lead, the fuse stays intact.
The alternator plug was showing continuity to earth through one of the 3 yellows. a reading of 0.6ohm on another and no continuity on the third.
I disconnected the regulator and tested it and got the following readings
red/white - yellow1 0.730
red/white - yellow2 0.851
red/white - yellow3 0.720
red white - green 0.720
green - yellow1 0.00
green - yellow2 1.00
green - yellow3 0.04

Can I assume the regulator is fecked or have I missed something?
Should there be continuity on the starter lead to earth.
How does the power get from the relay to the red wire as I reckon that takes power to the ignition switch?
Have I missed something blindingly obvious that is stopping it from working? I'm working from a black and white diagram and can't get my head round why the relay won't let me play!
Any help would be appreciated and if the regulator is done for, has anyone got a spare wedging a door open I can beg borrow or steal.

Sorry to hear you're having problems Dave.

I've had regulator problems before and never affected the starter relay fuse, the only way I've ever blown that was by connecting the battery the wrong way round .

hi dave something is wrong somewhere if you still havent got it sorted by saturday ill come over and fix it for you if you want

yousound like you have an earthing problem have you got the full loom etc

tell us as much info as possible

red and yellow is the starter motor

from memory red live in

red and black is the ign circuit out

the starter lead should go straight to earth on the battery no where else should be needed

Cheers for the replies, I'm not sure a black and white diagram is helping the matter. I'll check all these recommendations out tomorrow morning, it certainly looks like I have the red/yellow wrong and that was clearly marked when I bought it as "starter button". Thanks for the offer of coming over. Much appreciated but I am off to shoot in the Field Archery world championships in Switzerland on Wednesday and won't be back for 10 days. however, on my return I'll be out with the multimeter.
Does anyone thing the regulator is goosed with those readings?. If it is, I'll get one ordered, so it's here when I get back .

you can start the car without the regulator

I would forget about the rectifier for now the red and yellow when you put 12v down it will turn the engine over from memory(as long as the rest of the loom is connected

tried testing the starter relay and melted the wires when bridging the connectors with 12v

Tip for anyone trying to take a fireblade relay apart, don't bother they break the armature wires and even when you rewind them you can't get continuity back... bugger

On closer inspection and trying to work out what I had done wrong. I checked out the wiring and I reckon that the plug is wired wrong.
Have a gander at the pics but I reckon the g/r r/y and the r/w r are transposed.
The layout means the starter relay coil wires are the r/w r and the fused supplies are the g/r r/y. What doesn't make sense if this is the case is why they would be this way.
Any thoughts

well they obviously were plugged wrong as the car is now not blowing fuses, the supply getting to the fuse box and the start button works. Ruthy managed to solder the armatures connectors back in (good eye and a gentle touch needed there!) Still can't understand how they would get transposed,
never mind, one less problem on the way to getting her on the road
