another stupid wiring question on flasher units

Hi again

Am I right that I can wire up hazards/indicators using only one flasher unit as long as it's described as being 2-4 21w + 5w which I take it means either two or 4 indicators plus side repeaters?

Just confused as some layouts so seperate indicator and hazard flasher units.

i think that it depends upon whether you have an early or late set of switch gear. i started off and wired the wrong one, lots of problems untill i realised the error DOH!!!!!!!

i hope i have understood the question correctly? but i have one flasher unit and run both car and bike bulbs ok.

indicators are 2x 21W + 5W per side. Hazards do both sides at once, so 4 x 21W + 5W. A single relay can do both.

Here's how it works:

12V permenant and 12V from the ignition key go to the switches. If the Hazzards are off, the ignition is fed to the flasher relay, otherwise the permenant is fed to the flasher.

The flasher relay turns on and off repeatedly. This "flashing" voltage is fed back to the switches. The indicator switches it to one side or the other. The hazzard switch feeds it to both sides. The bulbs are then connected to ground.

You only need one relay.

I'm trying to do this with bike switch gear, an indicator relay and a hazzard switch. I've got all 4 flashing but only with the ignition on (as the relay is currently ign fed). I could make the relay perm live but I'm worried that if I leave the car some little scrot will flick the hazzards on and I'll come back to a flat battery!! Can you please explain your circuit? (I'm being thick I think!)
