spoke too soon

Evening

Thought the wiring was going too well. Couldn't resist checking if the indicators worked. Coonected the earth lead and turned on ignition.

left indicator blinks on and off lovely though select right indicator or hazards and the relay makes a constant whirring noise bit like a washer pump and the indicators don't flash.

Checked the column switches are wired to the correct wires and all seems fine. The column worked in the donor.

Any ideas on what to check or how to proceed fault finding as at the moment I'm just randomly disconnecting stuff and getting frustrated.

spoke too soon on here about my last post on wiring problems didn't I, thought this problem part of the build was over

thanks for any help or advice.
Nigel

I would be checking earths to the indicators and checking for correct bulb wattages to start with....

Cheers

my buggy does that if the switch doesn't make good contact and to little current gets through to the relay coil to hold the armature out so it just vibrates back and forth making the buzz.

cheers fellas

just been out again to the garage much to the wife's disgust as I only came in at 8:45

Dont ask me why but reconnected the battery lead and now both indicators work fine!! and both flash with the hazard button.

I've changed absolutley nothing, both indicators share a common earth. Am I barking up the wrong tree that it could just be new components bedding in?? doesn't seem likely but i can't think of anything else as I only connected the battery and everything else was the same.

Still it works the first lighting working on the car must crack on over the weekend and try and get the rest sorted.

Cheers fellas for the assistance, ideas on why it suddenly worked most welcome as i hate not knowing why something does/doesn't work.

Nigel

If you're using stalks off the donor, the switch contact on that side may have developed a film of corrosion and operating it a few times may have cleaned it off. Or indeed the bulb holders if you're reusing them. I shouldn't worry about it
