Another which chassis
Hi all new to the forum.
I have a BMW E30 325i which is rotton so I would like to use all the bits in a kit car. I'm thinking about a 7 style chassis but they are mainly
for 4pots as i can gather. Are there any self build chassis' that would accomodate this engine or even a custom turbo'd version?
Also would I be able to use any of the other bits from the e30?

Take a look at the McSorley plans.
May also fit in the Haynes Roadster...

Do yourself a favour, break the BMW, sell the bits, buy a Sierra.
The hassle of building a special chassis, then converting the running gear and suspension just isn't worth it, not for a 325 anyway. If it was
an S2000 maybe

I believe you can 'just' fit a Rover v8 in a standard Locost.
If you want to go Locost but need more space then you can add width (the common standard is 4" to all the lateral chassis tubes.
Have a look at the McSorley site as mentioned. This has plans for wider chassis and has corrected chassis cutting lists too!
Alternatively, the Roadster, as designed by ChrisG on here, is 2" wider than a Locost. There has already been atleast one 2.5 BMW engined car
built.
So check out the Roadster website.

If you really MUST use the 6 pot BMW engine, get a Luego Viento Chassis. It takes up to V12s, as its a LOT bigger than a std Se7en. They also do all
the fittings for a 6 pot BMW.
Look through my archive plenty of pics.
I have a RV8 in mine, and there is loads of room left over.
If had my money over again, I might have fitted a Skyline engine or something similar.
Still.... I love the V8 Sound, which is why I built it with a V8.
It all depends if you are building your own chassis or buying ready made.
Downside of the Viento is is expensive.
But then again, its fully sorted, and everything fits. Would save you a hell of a lot of work if you tried to build your own Viento sized machine.
I supose it just depends on your skill level versus your financial level

The Rover V8 fits Uncle Ron's no problem so will easily fit the Roadster and if you have a wee shufty on the haynes forum there is a Slovakian
father and son duo who have shoe horned a BMW motor into Mr G's Roadster...body work is cool toooooo

The question did ask about using ALL the bits from a 325. Granted BMW engones have been fiited, but has anyone done much with the other bits,
especailly the suspension and diff?

The Marlin Sportster can be built with BMW bits - not sure about models though.

I'm a dedicated 7 fan, but I've always thought the Marlin is a smart looking car. Cost is a factor, but they do have a good reputation -
you get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the replies.
I think I'll be selling the BMW bits then as I love the lower sitting 7's. Just love the sound of a straight 6 on full beans. The marlin
is a stunning car though.
My budget is build asmuch as I can myself including the chassis as I know someone in the steel trade.
Are there any advantages to a round tube chassis compared to a box section?
Can you get the plans for an original/ exact copy of a caterham 7?
If I'm going to use a 4pot what are the cheap yet powerful options? 4age?
Got loads of questions sorry if they have been asked before or are a little daft!
