Speedo Sender

Peeps,

Bought Caerbont instruments.

Speedo has magnetic proximity sensor which works by sensing change in magnetic field as it' passed by a (propshaft) bolt.

I will have to mount near driveshaft (smooth - no bolts) as no space near prop.

I was thinking that as I it works from bolts, I will be able to glue some 5mm thick steel tags to the driveshaft instead.

Does this sound like it'll work (and what glue is recommended)?

Thanks very much

ATB

Simon

I was going to order some magnets (which I don't, obviously, have), but as I've never come across magnetic nuts and bolts, I thought I'd just glue on some steel (which I do have!)

I'll try it and see what happens!

Cheers

Depends on the type of sensor and the circuit, some will work off a reluctor ring even off bolt heads other just use a simple reed switch which requires a magnet on the rotating part this the type used on pushbike speedos also on the extra speedo fitted to traffic police cars.

Reed switch type can be trigger by a couple of magnets arraldited onto an alloy wheel rim. See Rob Lanes site he fitted a bike speedo a couple of years back.
