Which solenoid should I get?

My starter solenoid seems to have given up the ghost - everytime I try to switch the engine on it just buzzes like mad - I have checked all the connections on the battery, topped it up and charged it to da max, but still no change.

So, which starter solenoid would you recommend for a 2000 R1?

Thanks,

James

I had a similar problem, completely different engine though.
Found it was just a bad earth in the end.
No idea why it made it buzz but it did. Just an idea....

Hmm thing is the car was firing up fine before I took the battery off one night to charge it - I don't remember changing any electrics or anything

Yup. Could be a poor earth preventing the solenoid from closing properly....

What about the earth connection on the engine?

Over the years I've had failures due to

  • Oxidation of battery posts
  • Failure of the clamp connector (corrosion)
  • Bad earth to body/engine
  • Sudden battery death

and in all cases they were sudden onset - all normal until it wouldn't start.

Well I think I have sorted the problem - I got the old jump leads out and managed to get it started. I rubbed the battery posts down with glass paper to get a better connection so I think the battery is very weak.

Thanks,

James
