slight problem with veypor vr2?

my veypor vr2 works fine apart from the rev counter only reads up to around 6800- 7000 rpm. if you accellerate hard from say 6000 rpm the rev counter will suddenly read about 3800 rpm and stick at that until revs fall. its a bit annoying as shift light is programed to come on further up rev range and it never reads that high. its forcing me to short shift as i dont want to damage engine. any advice would be helpful thanks!

There are three possible problems (I think).

First off, where the VR2 is taking it's feed from. Mine is wired into the loom where the original bike tacho was. This seems to be pretty good. The VR2 manual says you can fit it by wrapping the wire around the spark plug lead but this doesn't sound great to me? If you have this install it may lead to problems with quality of signal / interferance?

Secondly, are you sure it's accurate? There is a filter in the set up / config menu that allows you to "filter" the input, depending on no of cylinders or 2 / 4 stroke. It could have the wrong filter set, so it's reading 7,000 rpm, but the engine is actually doing 12,000 rpm? Do you have an original set of bike clocks you could plug in to test, or a garage with an emmissions tester with a rev counter?

Finally, I think there is a second filter that allows you to select the refresh rate on the rpm display. The lower the refresh rate it'll show 2,999 rpm, but constantly change, the higher the filter it'll show 3,000 rpm for everything in the range from 2,950 to 3,049 etc etc. This gives a more stable reading, without the end figures just being a blur? Might be worth altering that setting too?

If non of that works, it might be worth checking on the Veypor website for the latest firmware and install that instead.

Mike

thanks mate. it is accurate i think and it does read the most accurate reading eg 2999 rpm. it says about 6000 rpm but the engine has loads more left. eg 6000 rpm @ 60 mph in 6th. finally the car was originally wired as a track car so the loom was completely stripped.i have had a seperate loom put in for the swiyches etc. and no bike clocks

My thread here might help you.
More than likely it is your multiplier settings
