Acewell pick up points

It seems to be that my acewell rev counter reads incorrectly and is a bit jumpy.
I have the pickup cable wound around a spark plug lead and set it up for wasted spark.
What's the best way to get it just right??
Car is xe redtop vauxhall with wasted spark and megasquirt running extra code.
Can i just trigger it from one side of the coil?

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I had the same issue with a Vapor and wasted spark on a Zetec. Wound round one of the plug leads gives irratic results. Soldered the lead to one side of the coil...rock solid Tacho
