Recommend me a good altenative to a toggle switch
I've had the last couple of switches play up on me, on one the spade connecter worked loose and yesterday the toggle went all limp on the
other!
the ones i've been using are the metal casing type with the l.e.d built in.
its for my ignition switch as i dont have a key or barrel, i've got a transponder immobiliser so no problem with security.
what would be a good alternative you think? i dont want a key just a nice looking reliable switch

Im assuming that the failiure is due to them being cheapy switches..
Go to Rs components and buy some proper heavy duty industrial standard toggle switches...
Their catalogue should give you inspiration as well if you dont want toggles....

The CBS switches all tend to be budget... get proper industrial ones!

Yep just for my ignition i have a seperate starter button.
something that lighs up would be good to hence the led toggles
i think one i bought from europa and one off ebay. both cheap and not best quality
i'll try rs maybe with a seperate led if possible? would i just need to take a feed of the positive?

You cant beat a good toggle switch. Id just fork out a bit more and get a proper heavy duty one 
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

go for an industrial looking one, but hide it under the dash or something, with an led on the dash, then its just an extra bit of security

Are you carrying all ignition live current through this switch or using it to switch an ignition live relay?
You may just be overloading the switch leading to it's failure.

Hello John, How are you mate?
How about an FIA switch they are quite reliable aren't they?
It would be easy to wire in a light for when it is turned on if you wanted one.
You would also have the big red key as an extra security device.

erm i'm no expert with electrics
the wires would be the ones that would go on the key barrel, they are thick wires
the toggle i used was 15a....not enough you think
ETA hello Stu i was typing this then the phone rang! doing good matey
FIA switch deffo has big enough connections for the amp/current/volts
would you just loop off the wire for the illumination then!?

On a more serious note, if sticking with toggles look at something like these
farnell toggle switch range
While not cheap they have the advantage of being IP68 protected (completely dust tight and waterproof to >1m) and can switch 16A DC (20A on some)
which will remove the need for a relay on most circuits.

Yes, but that looks cheaply made (plastic knurl ring). It also isn't waterproof so will have a limited life in an open top car.
But it's your car and budget

Regarding wiring. I would try and avoid switching ignition like this unless its a high amp switch. 20A should be good. Oh and dont try to relay it
unless you put a diode across certain pins (Coil pins) on the relay. That could cause more trouble! Regarding an LED. Either get a cheap LED and
pretty much any resister (It will just change the brightness of the LED) or get a 12V high current LED. Second one is yep, more expensive.
Good luck on the search. I wanted to fit a Clifford Keyless entry system when I get my kit car. May do some day. Nobody will steel it is it has no key
and dual immobaliser.

Illumination would just be a bulb wired from the switched live side of the FIA switch and then the other side of the bulb to earth. You could have any
sort of bulb or an LED with the right size resistor.
