Figured it out! (sort of)

Following on from previous thread (Linky).
I was following the below diagram but was using a cheapo hazard switch (not disimilar to this one) with only a single pole (from halfords).

For all lights to flash, i joined the left and right side and connected them to the middle pin on the switch. I know now that it shouldn't have worked but for some reason, it did and i cant for the life of me figure out why!

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

If I understand correctly, all that is doing is using the indicator flasher relay to flash all 4 ligts, bypassing all the hazard circuitry?

Yeah, the two pins on the hazard switch (in the diagram) were connected together on the car so switching the indicator left or right, should have flashed all the lights but all it di was blow the fuse.

You can't use a single pole switch for the hazards.
If you do this it will allways have the L and R indicators tied together alll the time, this may blow the fuse through overlaoding it, depending on its rating

4*15w = 60W = 5amps

I know that now. I just cant figure out why it worked before i changed the steering column!

Anyone know where i cant get a double pole switch (preferably a toggle). Have checked halfords and maplin websites but cant find any on there.

That diagram does not look right, there is normally only one flasher relay, in the diagram you have you could in theory have the hazzards running and also the left or right indicator at the same time.

yes use a double pole switch if you need to but wire it in parrallel with the indicator stalk.

Just search for a DPST switch, should be common as muck
