Dash project
after finishing the engine project beroe christmas, now i need to sort out the dash. im on a reall tight buget though, i have time and a full
workshop, at the moment i have a smiths speedometer, and 4 small gauges for oil, water, petrol and volts. then the rev counter and warning lights are
the original siera items.
so, how can i make a nice smart dash, for not much money! i can spend a bit on dials, maybe a new speedo and rev counter?
cheers for any tips all.,

If the speedo will work with your gearbox or a sensor how about trying to get a matching smiths rev counter...or stick with the small guages and
splash out on a matching speedo and rev counter. You spend a long while looking at the dash so worth do a good job. there is a thread with loads of
pics already running. You can build something quite smart for very little money. all you need is a small amount of vinyl, some mdf or sheet ali and a
bit of time. have a look at the thread, I suspect you will get plenty of ideas.

Spend some time thinking about the layout, field of view, clean lines etc.
Depending on what you like, toggle switches are generally cheap and look good as well as being functional.
The dash board itself can be made out of just about anything and covered, ali+carbon fibre effect vinyl for example to keep costs down.
You could make your own digidash if you have the electronics skills too.
This (blog) Post goes into detail on how I did the layout on mine, why i put things
where and what things i considered important. Might give you some food for thought.
This dash post is a good source of inspiration. There are some very clean,
minimal designs there.
It also comes down to how much bling you want/need, and what your own taste is too.

Trust zetec on nice dashboards, his is stunning and was the main inspiration for building mine.
It's amazing what can be made with some MDF and a bit of patience. The hardest bit is coming up with a design you're happy with.
Take a look at the dashboard thread there are plenty of good ideas to help get you started.

is really good with the grey tones and red needles.
