pinto with points.....but what coil?
the car is ready to run now but when i cranked it over i had no spark....
ive done all the usual checks and it points to the coil.....i dont know if my coil is the correct one to start with...
i have a 2.0l pinto with a lucas points distributor....what coil should i have? is it a ballast or non ballest type? also should i have a 12vlt
ignition feed to the posotive side and the points wire to the negative side?
cheers

It won't be a Lucas point distributor it will be either Ford (aka Fomoco or Autolite) or Bosch.
You will have to identify which type as the contact breaker gap is very different. With the Ford distributer the gap is 0.023" to 0.027"
--- which should always be set at the wide end of the tolerance band and the cam lightly greased as the heel of the points on the Ford setup
sufferers from rapid intial wear which closes up the gap and retards the ignition timing.
The coil dosen't matter as long as you use a ballast coil with a ballast resistor and a normal 12v coil without.

The ballast resistor goes in the 12v line to the coil, but when cranking it should be shorted out so that the coil gets the full 12 volts.
This is to give a better spark when the volts are reduced when trying to start the engine.
I do not know what value resistor it should be, but the voltage on the coil , 9volts I think, should be maintained when running.
