fan relay

evening fellas (and lasses),

I sorted out my horn relay today and tried to set up my thermostatic fan switch with a relay too.

Slightly problem though is that the fan is always on? earth to 85, power via thermostatic switch to 86, fused power to 30 and fan to 87.

Is my switch buggered? Also my switch is fitted to a metal hose joiner which is suspended between two silicon hoses and not earthed - is this the issue?

Sounds right to me, if you can pull the wire from the switch pin 86 on the relay and use a meter to check if there is 12volts between this wire and earth if so then yes your switch is made.

You need to check if its a normally closed ( and goes open at the temp ) switch. OR a normally open ( that goes closed at the temp switch)
OR that it is not Knackered. ( stick it in a pan of boiling water and meter it)
If it is a normally closed that goes open you will need to change your relay for a 5 pin changeover jobbie and use 87a instead of 87.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

i'm pretty sure the switch should be earthed. try sticking a bit of wire to the base, and the engine block see if that makes any difference?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

well just rang CBS about it and have been told I've wired it up all right, but I must have tried to wire it without the relay first of all and burnt the pins out - i.e. you'll have to buy a new one rather than get a replacement!
