electrical fool again
evening all
couple of quick questions which I could do with answers to.
1. tried wiring a 2.5 headphone jack in place of the speaker on a sat nav as can't hear it with helmet on. I simply cut the connections to
speaker and wired to jack instead. Should this work for in ear headphones as I can't hear anything. I thought i was replacing one speaker with
another in the headphone?
2. I need to use a remote antenna for the sat nav as it's now half buried in the dash. I want to keep the hole I need to drill in the scuttle
top to minium and fit a grommet, easiest way would be to cut off the plug and reconnect it once passed through the scuttle. Is it likely to be just
wires in the lead or fancy screening/insulation? the connector is just like the type you find on 12v transformers for round with a pin in the
centre?
Cheers for any help.

Is the polarity correct? Have you used a mono or stereo jack? Sound will be mono, but if the polarity is wrong, the speakers may not work if they
have condensers.
Also, what cable did you use? It will need to be reasonable quality to prevent signal loss.

Dont cut the antenna lead....Dont ask me why....I know this...
Rather drill a hole that is just big enough to pass the plug and use some double sided tap to stick the antenna over the entry point.
As for your speaker to jack plug it has to be wired in such a way that the mono is split to the stereo head phones. As well as that the phono has a
switch to disable the speaker when the plug is in....you may be on the wrong tags

cheers for the quick reposnses. So question 2 don't cut the antenna lead, got it.
With regards to the jack plug, I have both a mono and stereo jack. I connected direct to the leads that were going to the speaker in the sat nav.
Should I just try connecting the to leads to various combinations of pins? I just thought that the tip of the headphone jack was positive and the
reaminder was negative, have i got this wrong?
I don't car about stereo as I'm only going to wear one headphone so just looking for the simplest solution to get sound.
Am I correct thought that it should work in theory?
Cheers again
