I just released the magic smoke

I'm sitting here feeling totally gutted............been working flat out for the last two weeks to get another V6 Fury to Stoneleigh , even got the MOT booked for this afternoon .
Right in the middle of fitting the dashboard , connected up the fog light switch - and as soon as it was switched on , the fuse popped .
So I put in a larger fuse.............and out came the smoke
There is loads of melted wiring behind the dash now
There is no way I can re-wire it in time , and I dont have a clue where the fault might be - so today is now a total write off

Its cuz I is blond , innit

Bugger

Hate it when that happens

If I was closer I would come and give you a hand to sort it.

In hindsight, never fit a fuse with higher capacity than the cable - that's what they are for...

Do you need any cable Claire? Just filled the boot with some, can bring to Stoneleigh...

Ty-wraps too, the ones with te clips for attaching to holes in body's, hundreds, all sizes.

What do you need?

Wiring is a doddle, easy for me to say cause I find it dead easy... and work for a harness manufacturer....

Body work and cosmetics for me (you'll see what I mean when you see my car) are a nightmare to me...

I considered restoring an Escort or something but the thought of all that bodywork rust made me want to top meself!

Chin up!
Steve

Note to self: My car is still in bits but I WILL be setting of at 10am in the morning

Biggest problem is - a new loom wont help as I would then have to make it fit , and connect it all up - which is where I am lost

Any body know of some one who would come round , measure the car , and supply a loom with all the plugs and connectors allready fitted ?

Claire, if you want a hand one weekend to do the wiring I can come and help. You arent that far from me in the grand scheme of things.

All you would need to do is order a load of wiring in different colours and connectors to suit and I'll do the rest in a couple of days.

sorry to hear your stuck. im a auto electrician but am a little far to help.

i would start at the fog lights and run wiring direct to battery to see if there is faults the work back wards from there.

you can just run more wire down to the fogs and battery and it should pass ok.

this aint too hard to do.

sorry again

Thanks

Hi Claire,
Sorry to hear of your wiring woes....I've nearly finished wiring my car using a Premier Loom and whilst the quality of the loom is good and Alan is very helpful the instructions are not the clearest and during one of my numerous calls to Alan he remembered he'd run out of Red/Black cable and some Brown/Black and used different colours instead!! Now wonder I was struggling!!
Hope you get things sorted quickly.
Cheers,
Matt
