LED.. how to flash with ignition off?

I have a red flashing LED which i want as a security deterant.

To make it flash/illuminate when the ignition is off, do i.

Wire one cable to a perm live and the other wire to a switched live?

you want a push to break relay so when the ignition is turned on, the power to the red light is turned off.

Relay should be activated by the ignition, and the switched circuit should be on a fused permanent live.

basically yes, if you put one side to a perm live and the other to an ign live then the led will go out with the ign on as it loses it`s earth path, but with the ign off it will track to earth thru anything ign fed. Hope this makes sense, early immobilisers used this method, I fitted many. Dennis.

if its a sierra ignition switch you are using, then one mine, there is a spare unused connection, that is live in the off position only

Hook one end to a permanent live and the other to your oil pressure switch.

To make the LED Flash you will need a small RC Circuit.

Or buy a "flashing" led from Maplin about £1.20
