Help - any car thieves here? :)
I took my car to work today and the ignition switch has promptly fallen apart.
I need to hotwire it to get home, which wire to what to get it going? I am on lunch until 1:30pm and finish at 5:00pm so won't be able to add
anything further.
The image is blured due to the cheap works camera (also no resizing software here), but the colours are red, black/blue, black/yellow and yellow

Got a multimeter? +12v. Ground. and two with nothing?
1 nothing is the ign, the other nothing is the starter..
Or is the switch at the back of the barrel intact?

Red to Black and yellow to run and red to black and blue to start.

Just finished lunch and a quick fiddle - the switch is knackered and looks to have been for some time!
I think I will also have to connect red to yellow to prime up the fuel pump?

I would doubt that. Yellow is for the radio and a few other bits and bobs but not the fuel pump unless you added it to there ?

isn't it connect red to black/yellow permanantly to activate ignition, fuel pump etc, then touch red to black/blue to fire up the starter?
the to stop the engine disconnect red to black/yellow?

Twist together the B+Y, Y and R wires, Flick the B+R wire onto that bundle. Simples.

I am an ex burglar.......
Burglar bar specialist used to work for expanda...... I used have to break in to installations.....when clients locked themselves in or out.
Such is the wealth of experiance on locostbuilders.....

black boxing your own car what has the world come to.
if you can get some tape on the 3 wires you need perminent to stop them coming apart when you hit a bump or anything. the wire is so thick they can
pop apart sometimes and leave you slowing down on motorway.

IIRC the barrel and switch are separate, if the switch is shaggered, the steering lock is probably okay, as it's mechanically done from the
barrel/key, rather than the leccy bits.

Hot wired as per advice and got home safely- The steering lock and barrel are unaffected, just the switch.
Again thanks to everyone, typical of the way this site works. thanks to Chris for hosting it and Fozzie for keeping us all in check!

Our car has had a dodgy switch, just got it fixed, but for about 3 weeks, we were hotwiring it in the same way. There is a muliticonnector not far
back from the ignition switch, just push wires into that.

Not too long ago my audi A4 wouldn't start on the key and left me stranded at work. Quick search on the net and I hot wired the starter. Still
needed the key in the ignition turned to ON to start.
When I got home I mounted a flick switch on the column from my kit car bits. Great theft device as no one has notice the switch when they try to start
it. So I didn't bother fixing the barrel.
