bangin' stereo assistance
just fitted new speakers and an amplified sub woofer to my daughters tin top.
the instructions for the sub wanted me to connect the big wire to the battery - no problem.. other big wire to earth..
and a smaller wire to the accessory power out on the head unit (which I don't have) or failing that I should use a switch so it can be switched
off. Surely just connecting it to an ignition controlled live is ok?
opinions please
cheers
Mark

If you dont have an remote accesory feed have you got the rca plugs to connect the amp to? Or are you connecting via the speaker wires? The remote
feed is normally the blue wire.
Connecting the feed from the ignition is a good idea then she wont leave it on which you know will happen. But put a switch in that so she can still
turn it off. Just tap it off the back of the stereo's ignition feed. It doesnt draw much its just literally to turn the amp on.

It's best to be able to switch it off independently to the ignition. Otherwise its on all the time even if she doesnt want it to be on.
(obviously while ignitions on)

If it's not got an amp power output I'm guessing it's probably a reasonably old factory fitted unit? In which case it will probably
be old enough to have a back-lit LCD screen? (using a bulb rather than an LED). If that's the case, wire the amp to that and it'll switch
on and off with the stereo.
Another trick is to use the output for a power aerial. Just make sure it stays up when you switch to CD.

The remote lead is there to switch the amp off when the ignition is off so it doesnt kill the battery.
Mine is connected to an on igintion live and has switch in it so I can switch the amp off when I dont want to melt my head
