ZX10r Gear Selector fault

I started on the car today after two weeks rest. I connected her up (battery fully charged) and went to turn on the ignition waiting for the usual secondary butterflies to open and set themselves, however this did not happen. Instead a very winny noise emitted from the sub-throttle actuator which controls the butterflies and they did not move.
Also to add to my problems the bike no longer shows the gearbox in neutral even though it physically is. I previous re-routed some earth wiring before christmas on the car however it all worked fine.

So my question is, is it common for the Gear Selector sensor just to fail and cause a knock effect with everything else? Sorry if this is a bit vague, im just stumped!

Cheers
