Type 9 Bellhousings

With the problems im having trying to get a starter to fit my 1.8 silvertop/type 9 gearbox im beginning to wonder if there are variations in the bellhousing. I have a feeling when i picked up the type 9 from the scrappy it had 1.8cvh written on the gearbox. Could this be my problem???? Seems to fit to the zetec fine!

No that will make no odds. Whats the problem ?

Some starters are chunkier than others. On a silver top you will need to grind a little of the webbing away for it to fit and on a black top you have to hack no end of.

What starter have you got ?

A lucus LRS707 is the starter for a silver top on a type9, with a light grind on the sump.

Cheers,

B

Ive had two so far a LRS0707 and a quinton hazel one that was equivalent of the LR567. The first one was way too small and didnt seem to extend far enough to engage and the second the holes didnt line up at all. Im wondering whether the LRS0707 may be wrong. I asked for one for an 88 sierra 1.8 starter but didnt seem to work. Ive had loads of trouble as the motor factors have struggled with the codes and lucas parts. Will try another one and go for LR707.

fitted the 1.8 cvh starter to mine, hd to cut a section out of the sump as it wasnt allowing the starter to sit square causing a problem with engagement. So cut a section away and had a plate weldedinside the sum to seal the hole. Sorry no pics at present
