What car instruments to use?
Hi, all...
Looking for some instruments to use in a 7-style. Prefer individual dials to the all-in-one stuff, but new clocks cost an arm & a leg. Would
settle just for (electronic) speedo & tacho as long as they match, but nobody seems to have any. Apparently motorbike stuff is unsuitable as
well, which seems to leave just one option - a set of used car clocks.
So... what would folk recommend by way of a suitable donor car for something that looks nice & is easy to transplant? If they come in a binnacle,
how easy is it to separate them & then get hold of glass & IVA bezels?
Any help/suggestions much appreciated!

Acewell does a wide range of digital and analogue-ish instruments. With one of these and maybe a couple of extra
lights you could get by.
This one's got most things on it

rally designs RMD stuff is good!
£80 for the speedo, 60 for the tacho, ooh, plus vat though...

made by the same folk that make smiths gauges, which are real good

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Elise/VX220?
sort of all in one but look very neat.
Paid £50 for mine (albeit later ones so couldnt get coolant gauge to work properly due to requiring a pulsed canbus signal) but the early (s1 elise
and i think its the NA VX220) use standard wiring methods. You just need a pulse feed for the elec speedo. I used a astra digi dash sender for mine
and ran that thru a adjustble pulse converter (picbits.co.uk)

I used a unit from an escort, chopped it about and fitted it flush to the back of the dash and made it look like individual dials with turned ali
bezels - ok for SVA.
My current Mk3 Mondeo has nice looking instruments in a unit but made to look like separae dials - you may be able to do the same trick

I am thinking the same, etb with electronic speedo. I wonder if they would do a bulk buy discount? If there was any interest, I could always ask!
Cheers

I can only count 5 gauges there???
btw, I got a 6 gauge set from ETB: as yours + voltmeter (because it wasn't that much extra)

I would be up for a bulk buy from ETB. Gauges are tooooooooo costly, but I want them.

i have just looked at etb's guages, am liking what i see.
i currently have an acewell digidash which im planning on removing and putting in classic gauges. im not a fan of the digital speedometer though.
how hard is it and what is required to fit a mechanical one?
