4AGE 20v starter motor issues.

Just got the car out the garage for the first time in 7 months in preparation for an MOT, Tax and another summer of fun.

No go Just a click from the starter motor and nothing else.

The battery is fully charged so it looks like I'll be overhauling the starter motor next weekend.

Any issues I should be aware of with a 4AGE 20v starter?

Hi Worzey, I hope all is well.

Your battery may be charged but it could still be faulty and not hack the cranking power required to turn the engine over.

Try cranking and getting a friend to tap the starter motor, it may have a brown point (caused where high current is pulled through the motor bushes and creates an insulation between the contact preventing high current pulls) and giving it a tap may help free it up.

I have not started my car for about 6 months, I hope I dont have the same problem!!

Good luck and we will have to hook up this year for a track day, fancy Brands in the next couple of months??

Brands sounds like it might be fun. Let me know when you're going and we can try and meet up.

The battery is fine. Voltmeter shows a steady 12.75v across the terminals.

I didn't spend too long today trying to diagnose as I was also keeping one eye on the Cricket and the Footie.

I'll try the hammer trick. I've also not tried rocking backwards and forwards in-gear to see if that free's it up.

Just been back in the garage.

Spoke to it nicely and explained its behaviour was well below the level I expected.

It's now decided to turn over
